A scubadiver with over 40 years of experience found something unusual. “I´ve never seen anything like it in my life” said Raniero Borg, a 61 years old maltese diver, who capture on video a transparent fish in the Mediterranean coasts of Malta.

“In my 40 years diving, I´ve never seen anything like it, it looks like a jellyfish, like whale or dolphin fetus,” said surprised, after he found this fish that he named “ghost fish”.

After their encounter, Borg approached the International Ocean Institute and found out that this “ghost fish” is actually a salpa-like creature, a species that reaches maturity in 48hours, and that can grow by up to 10% every hour.

This curious animal moves by contraction, pumping water through his gelatinous body. They eat everything that they can catch, although their favorite food is phytoplankton. They reproduce asexually.
