Guatemala wins the highest recognition of the Anaconda International Award 2021

This past December 6th, at the facilities of the Bolivian Cinematheque, in the city of La Paz, the special exhibition and award ceremony of the ninth version of the Anaconda International Award for Amazonian indigenous video, Afro-descendant, Chaco and tropical forests was held. of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The event was enhanced by the presence of indigenous communicators invited from the continent from countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, the Basque Country and, of course, Bolivia, national authorities such as the Minister of Cultures, Decolonization and Depatriarchalization, Sabina Orellana , the Deputy Minister of Decolonization Pelagio Condori, the Coordinator of CLACPI, Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Cine y Comunicación de los Pueblos Indígenas, Marano Estrada de México, leaders of the Unity Pact organizations CSUTCB, Confederación “Bartolina Sisa” and CIDOB, in addition to CAIB and CEFREC.

The Anaconda Award, born in 2000, comprises a unique initiative of its kind since, in addition to developing a broad dissemination and visibility of audiovisual production and the topics it deals with, it privileges community leadership and local juries in the selection. and awarding of the winning works, together with the international film and video festivals of indigenous peoples, one of the most outstanding and long-standing initiatives of CLACPI.

Anaconda, is promoted and organized by the Latin American Coordinator of Cinema and Communication of Indigenous Peoples CLACPI, with the presence of the PRAIA foundation, also the promoter of this initiative since its first version, and on this occasion, in coordination with the Cuban Institute of Radio and ICRT Television, Tv Serrana de la Sierra Maestra Cuba, and the support of Aid Popular de Norway APN.

Anaconda is developed with the objective of contributing to the recognition, appreciation and respect of different cultures and full validity of the rights of indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples and the realization of their aspirations in full interculturality and as a contribution to social transformation for living well or good living.

The Anaconda Award in its ninth version included the development of an official exhibition and an international itinerant exhibition in indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, in coordination with local entities and organizations in each country.

In this ninth version, audiovisual works from 14 countries were present: Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, Guatemala, Honduras, Canada, Panama and Cuba. The international jury was made up of: Daniel Diez from Cuba; Roger Rumrril from Peru, Bashe Charole from Argentina; Ängeles Cruz from Mexico and Marcelo Guaji from Bolivia.

The deep and traditional rhythms of the Afro-Bolivian saya and of the traditional music of the Itala community that accompanied and added emotion and partying to the event. With this activity, the Continental Meeting on Indigenous Community Communication, held in Cochabamba and La Paz, from November 29 to December 4 of this year, was closed.
